In length and style it doesn't even fit the collection in my opinion but then variety is important too. I think I would have preferred 4-5 more accessive, "coneventional" stories that this self-indulgent novella.Optimo Principihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16015735096719541131noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7670543499274741427.post-27151943712654839542020-02-27T17:32:55.703+01:002020-02-27T17:32:55.703+01:00Although I've been reading science fiction sin...Although I've been reading science fiction since the 1950s, I'm going through Dangerous Visions for the first time. Most of the stories are quite readable, & I would cite Leiber's "Gonna Roll the Bones" as outstanding: imaginative prose conveying a forceful plot with engaging characters. On the other hand, "Riders of the Purple Wage" is one of the most unreadable tales I've ever encountered, full of sophomoric puns & word plays, unnecessarily obscurantist & pretentious. Jonathan Swift parodied such writings in the early 18th century in his "Tale of a Tub."Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04448790262097767345noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7670543499274741427.post-64759926277647896092014-08-05T08:45:56.884+02:002014-08-05T08:45:56.884+02:00I'm interested in the word 'recent'. ...I'm interested in the word 'recent'. You must visit better blogs and sites than me. :) The majority I see these days would not consider Riders of the Purple Wage to be in their wheelhouse of 'good story'. It's just too esoteric, too atypical lexcially, too outright bizarre for most genre readers...

I'll be curious to see Jessehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07796098208589965362noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7670543499274741427.post-41047689462566766332014-08-04T15:23:33.049+02:002014-08-04T15:23:33.049+02:00This is one of the more positive recent reviews of...This is one of the more positive recent reviews of the story I've seen. Sounds like The New Wave at its best. Thankfully I just procured a copy of Dangerous Visions :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
