This is Part II of our Morocco photos. Part I is here.
We spent three days at Erg Chebbi, including this obligatory camel photo.
Sunset on the desert
The obligatory camel ride for a night on the desert. My wife and daughter rode Jimi Hendrix, my son Bob Marley, and myself Itchin' Joe (because he was always itchin' to go). For the record, the kids' camel count for the entire trip was 278.5—the half point for a life-sized camel figure standing outside a roadhouse, complete with fur, saddle, etc.)
I drove 2,200 km during the trip, much of which was on empty, beautiful roads like this.
After the desert, we drove to Meknes, home to the this, the Mausoleum of Mouley Isma'il. As is often the case, the photo does not do the place justice.
Speaking of Jimi Hendrix, Meknes is home to the Dar Jamai Museum, an amazing building housing a great collection of musical instruments and showcasing the variety of Moroccan culture.
After Meknes, we drove to Rabat for a night, then to Essaouira. (If I had to to things again, I would have skipped Rabat and spent an extra day in Essaouira—not that Rabat was bad in any way, but that Essaouira had more to see and explore). This is one of the city's mosque.
The city's coast.
Essaouira's fishing boats.
...and the fishing markets.
The final two days of the trip were spent in Agadir. A clean, almost European city, the seafood was great and the kids loved playing in the ocean (too cold for dad).
Overall, great trip. Would love t go back someday.
The End
